Applications are now open for the Springville Youth Court, a peer-based program that helps teens maintain a clear record after minor offenses by allowing peer volunteers to hear cases and decide on appropriate consequences. This opportunity is available to students attending Springville and Mapleton schools who will be in grades 9-12 next year. Court sessions are held bi-weekly on Thursday evenings during the school year at the Springville City Building, starting with dinner and a brief training or review of cases, followed by peer court hearings. Volunteers are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible, with a minimum commitment of attending at least half. Interested students can observe a court session before applying by emailing youthcourt@springville.org to request an observation date. Applications can be submitted at www.springville.org/youthcourt until May 15.

On March 19th, the Advanced Welding Class went on a field trip to local welding industries as part of their state curriculum. The class visited Intermountain Lift, Yeti Welding, and Fort Knox Safe and Vault. While at these businesses, the students learned about all of the aspects of the welding industry, from design, to fabrication, to finished product. The trip was extremely interesting. The SHS welding program would like to thank the businesses for allowing the students to come and tour their facilities.

The ACT for juniors will be administered on Wednesday, March 19th at 7:50 AM sharp. Prior to the test, students should have created accounts in their History classes or received the necessary packet to do so, and updated their Chromebooks. Room assignments will be posted on the main school doors on Tuesday, March 18th. Students need to bring a fully-charged Nebo Chromebook, a personal ID, and No. 2 pencils with erasers. Note, there will be no school for sophomores or seniors on March 19th. Juniors taking the ACT must arrive on time, as late students will not be permitted to test. The exam is expected to last at least 3 hours, or 4-5 hours for students with accommodations. Only students without an issued SHS Chromebook can borrow one, so ensure you bring your assigned, charged Chromebook. Smartwatches and cell phones are not allowed during the test. Approved calculators may be used, but aren't necessary since the test includes a built-in calculator. For additional information, see Mrs. Green in the library. Juniors preparing for the ACT need to update their Chromebooks by following these steps: click the open circle in the bottom left corner, go to settings, scroll down to About ChromeOS, click Check for updates, and restart after the update finishes. It's crucial for students to create their accounts for the ACT; failing to do so will prevent them from accessing their scores online. Please double-check that this has been completed.
