Schedule: Six round “Swiss”. No eliminations. Time control is 30 minutes with 5 second delay

for all rounds. First round begins at 8:30am. Round 1 pairings should be up by 7:30am. Players

should be seated by 8:15am. Players who are not at the board by 8:30 may be removed from

the tournament and their opponents re-paired. Players are responsible to watch for other

rounds to start in their section. In rounds 2-6, player forfeits if not at board within 10 minutes

of round start.

Sections: One section per grade. Students are required to play within their current grade.

requested prior to the beginning of the tournament. Two byes maximum.

Entry Fee: Registration link available at utahchess.com

• $15 if registration and funds are received by March 11.

• $25 if registration and funds are received by March 14.

• $35 on-site registration. Player will take a ½ point bye for round 1.

US Chess Memberships: This is a US Chess Federation tournament and will be US Chess rated. If

you are registering a new player, type NEW in the field that asks for the USCF number.

Players who have a membership number need to provide it so that a duplicate player is not

created. Membership numbers and other information are available at uschess.org. Any player

in grades 4-6 who does not have a current US Chess membership for the event will be given a 1

year membership as part of their registration fee. Players in grades K-3 who don’t have US

Chess ID numbers will be issued an ID number. The K-3 sections will be JTP (Junior Tournament

Player) sections.

Rules: US Chess rules, with the variations included in Appendix B of the Utah Chess Scholastic

Handbook. Other variations may be posted in advance or announced at the tournament.

Individual Prizes: Trophies will be awarded to at least the top 15 players per section. Other

players will receive an “outstanding” trophy or participation award.

Questions: Please e-mail questions to utchess [at] gmail.com.

NOTES

Registration tips: If you are registering a new player, type NEW in the field that asks for the

USCF number. That is the most common registration problem. For more help with

registration, see http://www.utahchess.com/q-a/.

Onlineregistration.cc shows all advance entries. If you are not on that list, you ARE NOT

REGISTERED. If you show up on Saturday and complain that you really did register but didn’t

confirm you were on the advance entries list, we will enter you in for Round 2 after you pay

the entry fee.

If your school is not listed, please select OTHER and send an email to utchess [at] gmail.com.

Teams: Trophies awarded to top teams. Each team will consist of up to the top five players

from each school, across all sections. Each player will represent the school they attend. If a

student is home schooled or attends a charter/private school, they may choose to represent

the public school in whose boundaries they reside. Schools with 3 or more players will be

considered a team. Team pairings avoided in rounds 1-5.

Rules online: See https://new.uschess.org/news/7th-edition-rule-book-chapters-nowavailable-download/.

Other: Concessions available for purchase.
