WANTED - YOUTH WILDLIFE ARTISTS

~ UTAH JUNIOR DUCK STAMP TIME! ~

The Utah Junior Duck Stamp (JDS) Program links the study of wetlands and waterfowl conservation with the creation of original artwork through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge will host the annual Utah Junior Duck Stamp Program. The submission deadline is March 15, 2019. Judging will be held March 27, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at the Bear River MBR Wildlife Education Center, 2155 West Forest Street.  The public is invited to the judging event.

Any student, from kindergarten through grade 12, regardless of whether they attend public, private, or home school, can submit original artwork in this fun and educational competition. The JDS program teaches wetland and waterfowl conservation through a science and art based curriculum.  Students in grades K-12 learn about the habitat requirements of various kinds of ducks and geese and then express their knowledge of the beauty, diversity, and interdependence of these species artistically, by creating a drawing or painting which can be submitted to the JDS art contest. The art is judged in four age groups through a statewide competition; the entry judged Best of Show moves on to represent Utah in the national JDS competition.

Aspiring artists may view last year’s winning artwork at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge on exhibit February 11 through March 31, 2019.
