Veterans Day 2015

Submitted by cami.chang on

Two weeks ago Wilson Elementary had the pleasure of having two military veterans participate in a school-wide flag raising ceremony to commemorate Veterans Day. The musical trio Firefly also participated by singing the national anthem, and they did a beautiful job! Thank you to all the veterans and those currently serving our country.

Parent Teacher Night

Submitted by cami.chang on

Our second Parent Teacher Conference night is coming up! On Wednesday, December 2nd, from 2:10-8:00pm, please take advantage of an opportunity to visit your child's classroom and conference with his/her teacher. This is a great time to see how your child is doing in school, the quality of work he/she is doing, and talk about the needs and successes of your child, especially as we near the end of the first half of the school year. Below is a link to sign up for a time to meet with your child's teacher. We hope to see you there!

Robotics

Submitted by cami.chang on

Every Friday after school, a group of students gathers in the school cafeteria to learn how to make robots. When I popped in today to see how it was going, I saw 5th and 6th grade students, boys and girls alike, working on laptops, discussing how to improve their robots, fiddling with their creations, and testing their designs. It was an incredible experience to see these students using robotics vocabulary and working together to create working, moving robots! The students love going to robotics class and learning how to use technology to make amazing creations.

Wilson Contributes to "Read For The Record" Numbers

Submitted by cami.chang on
Not too long ago we celebrated Read For The Record, where Mr. Rawlings read to every student in the school. Read For The Record is a global event where "over 2.2 million children and adults gathered in schools, libraries, and communities around the world to read Not Norman: A Goldfish Story. The book was so popular, it sold out everywhere!" (Jumpstart's Read for the Record) As a school, we contributed 530 students that impressive number of 2.2 million! That was more than any other school in the district. We are proud to be Wilson Lions!

Apex Fun Run Is Here!

Submitted by cami.chang on

The PTA's annual fundraiser this year is the Apex Fun Run! Next Wednesday, November 11th, students will spend 30 minutes running laps. This week and into next week they can gather pledges from friends and family, and after the Fun Run they will collect those pledges. For example, if someone pledged to donate $1 per lap for a student and that student runs 30 laps next Wednesday, he/she would give the student $30 after the Fun Run. Flat donations are also accepted and appreciated!
